Dr. Anthony C. Ogden is a distinguished leader in the field of international higher education and the Founder and Managing Director of Gateway International Group. Dr. Ogden is a prolific author and scholar, having published numerous scholarly articles and co-edited several books on international higher education. Elizabeth Leibach

Elizabeth Leibach has an extensive and diverse background in international admissions/recruitment, student/faculty advising, employment-based/student immigration services, and student success/development, retention and programming. Her career trajectory and path includes experiences and positions within large state, public and private institutions and an immigration legal practice. In her local community she served as the chair of the subcommittee on education, advocacy and communications for the Mayor’s International Affairs Advisory Commission in Lexington. Elizabeth has been a member of the NAFSA’s Trainer Corp since 2011 and has previously served on NAFSA’s Region VI team. At the national level she served on the ISS-RP Travel Subcommittee and as a NAFSA Whip representing Kentucky and Pennsylvania on the grassroots team. She was the first Whip to get a state resolution on international education passed in Pennsylvania, and she considers herself to be a passionate advocate for international education. Elizabeth is currently pursuing doctoral coursework in Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation with a focus on international comparative education at the University of Kentucky. She recently presented a paper at the Comparative International Education Society’s (CIES) annual conference in April 2021. Elizabeth is a Fulbright grantee (2014) and currently serves as the director of the international student and scholar services at the University of Kentucky. She has been with UKY since June 2012.

Terence Miller

Terence W. Miller has worked in senior international education positions for 24 years at Marquette University, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Ramapo College of New Jersey. In those positions he oversaw recruitment, admission and immigration advising for undergraduate and graduate students; English as a Second Language Program; Education Abroad; Curricular and co-curricular programming; as well as strategic international partnerships. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Manhattan College, Bronx, New York and received his Juris Doctorate from St. John’s University, Queens, New York.

He was a criminal defense attorney in Brooklyn, N.Y.; a human rights attorney in Chile during the dictatorship; and director of an international public policy office in Washington, D.C. He was the Legal Advisor and ex officio Board of Director member for the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) for eight (8) years. He is the recipient of the Timothy J. Rutenber Award from AIEA in 2017 and the Dorothy von Briesen World Citizen Award from International Institute of Wisconsin (IIW), Milwaukee, Wisconsin in 2013. He co-authored with Rajika Bhandari “Harnessing Data to Lead Internationalization” a chapter in Leading Internationalization: A Handbook for International Education Leaders (Stylus Publications, 2018). He has presented at AIEA, Nafsa, FORUM, APAIE and EAIE conferences on an array of issues impacting the field of international education including strategic partnerships, risk management, international regulatory compliance in global operations, intercultural competence, and comprehensive internationalization.

Meredith McQuaid

Meredith M. McQuaid, J.D. is a proven leader in international education, known for her experience, creativity, and collaborative spirit. With more than 30 years experience at a public university, McQuaid understands all dimensions of international education and the collaboration needed to succeed. She has extensive leadership experience at the national level and has engaged with partners all over the world. Her experience as an immigration attorney has given her a deep understanding of the challenges of mobility, and a unique appreciation for the importance of intercultural communication.

William I. Brustein

On September 1, 2021, William I. Brustein was appointed Acting Director of the Center for Global Studies at the University of Pittsburgh. On July 1, 2020, William I. Brustein stepped down as Vice President for Global Strategies and International Affairs at West Virginia University to assume the position of Eberly Family Distinguished Professor of History. As the former Vice President for Global Strategies and International Affairs he dedicated himself to fully integrating international and multicultural experiences into the academic units within the university and expanding and enhancing its global reach. Dr. Brustein has spent his administrative career focused on international education and has extensive leadership experience in building international partnerships. Before coming to West Virginia University in 2016, he was the Vice Provost for Global Strategies and International Affairs and President of The Ohio State University Global Gateways, an arm of OSU’s Office of International Affairs under which the institution opened offices in Shanghai, Mumbai, and São Paulo. Professor Brustein has published widely in the areas of political extremism and ethnic/religious/racial prejudice.

Donna Anderson

Dr. Donna Anderson is an international education administrator with over 20 years of experience in international higher education. She has held senior leadership positions at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville and the University of Montana. Dr. Anderson has provided leadership in the areas of Education Abroad, International Partnerships and Agreements, International Student and Scholar Services, Intensive English Language Programs, and International Student Recruitment.

She has worked with administrators, faculty, and staff to create global opportunities; expand international components of teaching, research, and engagement activities; recruit and support international students and scholars; provide education abroad opportunities; and facilitate development of international partnerships. Dr. Anderson’s major research interests include the areas of international student identity development, and diversity, equity and inclusion in international education. Her most recent publication appears in the Journal of International Students. Dr. Anderson is an active member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators and the Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA). She has been a frequent presenter at NAFSA state and regional conferences.

Dr. Anderson holds a bachelor’s degree in German and Sociology from Luther College, a master’s degree in Education from Loras College, and a doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from Colorado State University-Fort Collins.

Dr. Hiroshi Ota

Dr. Hiroshi Ota is a Professor at the Center for General Education at Hitotsubashi University, Tokyo, where he serves as the Director of the Hitotsubashi University Global Education Program. His research primarily focuses on higher education policies and practices related to internationalization and international student mobility from a comparative perspective. He has more than 130 publications in Japanese and English, including 6 book chapters published by Springer, Routledge, SAGE, and Multilingual Matters.

Dr. Ota serves as a vice president of the Japan Association of International Student Education (JAISE) and a board member of the Research Consortium for the Sustainable Promotion of International Education (RECSIE). In addition, he has been a visiting scholar for the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO), a government agency that supports and promotes international education. He has also served as a member on many selection and evaluation committees of international education and internationalization projects implemented by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), Japan. Dr. Ota received his Ed.M. in 2001 and Ph.D. in Social Foundations of Education (Comparative and Global Studies in Education) in 2008 from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He was also awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study international education administration in the U.S. in 1996.

Jenifer Cushman

President of the University of Maine at Augusta, Cushman has worked over twenty five years in higher education, fifteen in senior leadership.  Previously, she served as the Chancellor or Penn State University’s Beaver campus.  After engaging as a German faculty member at the Morris campus in the University of Minnesota study abroad curriculum integration effort, Cushman served as dean of international education at NAFSA Simon Award-winning Juniata College.  She has been an AIEA Presidential fellow, American Council on Education fellow, participant in the Harvard Institute for Education Management, and the 2015 president of AIEA.

Christopher Powers

Christopher Powers is a senior international educator with thirty years’ experience leading international initiatives, including student, teacher, and administrator exchanges; scholarship and fellowship programs; institutional grants for U.S. colleges and universities; and international training programs for professionals. His experience includes U.S. study abroad, international student services, and language programming. Mr. Powers has served in senior positions at Amideast, TESOL International Association, the Institute of International Education, and NAFSA: Association of International Educators.

Kyle Rausch

Dr. Kyle Rausch is an experienced education abroad professional whose work has focused on the oversight of faculty-directed education abroad programs, including the development of program leader training and institutional risk management policies and protocols. Currently serving as the Executive Director of the Study Abroad Office at the University of Illinois at Chicago, Kyle’s experience includes helping institutions build capacity for education abroad, specifically for institutions that serve high numbers of underrepresented students. During his tenure with Arizona State University, Kyle led the faculty-directed programs team to scale programming responsibly, helping move the institution into the top 10 sending institutions as reported by the Institute of International Education. Kyle has also developed institutional risk management policies for international travel, managed the response to emergencies affecting institutional travelers abroad, and taught and led student groups on-site in Europe. Kyle earned a Doctor of Education from ASU with his research focusing on supporting first-generation college students in education abroad. He earned a Master of Science in Higher Education Administration and a Bachelor’s degree in French and International Affairs from Florida State University. Kyle currently serves on the Council for the Forum on Education Abroad and further volunteers by serving on advisory boards for various education abroad organizations.

Stephen Appiah-Padi

Stephen Appiah-Padi is an international educator with several years of teaching and administrative experience in both 4 and 2-year HEIs. An experienced global education practitioner-scholar, with a demonstrated history of success in the field.

Dr. Appiah-Padi has a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada in Educational Policy & Administration with a specialization in International/Intercultural Education.

At Northwestern College, he provided oversight in the administration of education abroad and international student services. In Lansing, Michigan, he first oversaw diversity and intercultural education at Lansing Community College, and later created the Center for International and Intercultural Education (CIIE) which merged intercultural engagement and international education programs of the institution, and he became its first director. Additionally, Dr. Appiah-Padi taught a course, “Diversity in the American Workplace”, to undergraduate management students of the College. In his current position, he provides leadership and vision in advancing strategic internationalization initiatives, including international partnerships and study abroad programs at Bucknell University.

Dr Appiah-Padi has created and facilitated several workshops for faculty and staff development in higher education and in business organizations. He has presented at several national and international conferences. In NAFSA, among several volunteer leadership positions, he has served as Dean of the Fundamentals of Intercultural Communication Workshop, the Leadership Development Committee member, Chair of the Africa Special Interest Group, and a Fellow of the Global Fellowship Program for mentoring emerging leaders of internationalization in African HEIs. He currently serves as a member of the NAFSA Board of Directors.

Keiko Ikeda

Keiko Ikeda is a Professor in the Division of International Affairs, and KU-COIL Coordinator at Kansai University. Recently, she has taken the role as the principal project manager for the Inter-University Exchange Project funded by MEXT, 2018-2022 (“COIL Plus Program to Develop Global Career Mindset”). Keiko is Vice-Director for the newly established organization at Kansai University, Institute for Innovative Global Education (IIGE). She has a Ph.D. from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa, specializing in Japanese linguistics, foreign language education, and conversation analysis. Her interests in the international education field are internationalization at home, constructing active learning programs collaborating with universities overseas. Keiko also plays a vital role in another line of the on-going government-funded project, SUCCESS-Osaka Project (2017-2021). It promotes the employability of international students who have studied in Japan.

Patricia Sagasti Suppes

Dr. Sagasti Suppes has been a Senior International Officer at two liberal arts colleges before her current position as Director of Global Engagement and SIO at Stockton University. She began her career as a Spanish Professor, advocating for internationalization of the curriculum and developing several innovative, experiential travel courses for undergraduates. She has also worked as a consultant, developing partnerships and projects between international institutions of higher education. Dr. Sagasti Suppes is a Visiting Faculty member of GlobalEd, helping to advance the scholarship of international education. She is an advocate of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging in international education, and has held volunteer regional leadership positions in NAFSA. She has also volunteered as an advocate of immigrant and refugee rights, and these experiences have informed much of her on-campus programming. Dr. Sagasti Suppes holds bachelor’s degree in Spanish and French from Sweet Briar College and a master’s and Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She is a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer, having served in Morocco, and is currently serving as a Virtual Service Pilot volunteer with the Peace Corps.

Nick Gozik

Nick J. Gozik is Dean of Global Education and Assistant Professor at Elon University. Previously, he held positions in international education at Boston College, Duke University, New York University, and the University of Richmond. He has taught at New York University, Boston College, Lesley University, and the School for International Training.

Gozik has conducted research on identity, race, and schooling in France, using history-geography education on the French island of Martinique as a case study. He has contributed to research at the Social Science Research Council on internationalization, interdisciplinarity, and boundary-crossing in U.S. higher education, through the lens of area studies centers. More recently, his academic and professional work has focused on outcomes assessment, faculty development, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in global programming. Among his publications, he has co-edited Promoting Inclusion in Education Abroad: A Handbook of Research and Practice (Routledge, 2018) and A House Where All Belong: Redesigning Education Abroad for Inclusive Excellence (The Forum on Education Abroad, 2022).

Gozik has held a number of leadership positions in international education, including serving as Chair of The Forum on Education Abroad’s Forum Council, the highest elected position in the organization. He currently serves as Editor of NAFSA’s Global Studies Literature Review.

Gozik holds an M.A. in French Language and Civilization and Ph.D. in International Education from New York University.

Rosa Almoguera

Dr. Rosa Almoguera has worked as an international educator for over twenty years. She was trained as a Hispanic Philologist at the Universidad Complutense, in Madrid, and did her M.A. at the University of Pennsylvania. Her Ph.D., from Universidad Complutense included a field study and edition of written balladry “Romancero”. During many years Rosa combined teaching and her role as a senior administrator at the Fundación Ortega-Marañón in Toledo, Spain. At the Foundation, Rosa directed and, in many cases created, programs for the University of Minnesota, Notre Dame, Princeton, Ohio State, Arcadia, and the University of Chicago. She has also been a visiting professor at the University of Minnesota, University of Portland, and Interamericana de Puerto Rico.

Beginning in 2016, Rosa works as an international education consultant for both public and private European and US higher education institutions. Rosa has been successful in developing new partnerships and programs, as well as helping improve already existing ones.

Rosa is a member of Forum and NAFSA and has presented with higher education professionals on innovative academic and research programming, STEM in study abroad and Nationalism in Europe. Rosa is currently completing the final Professional Certification from the Forum on Education Abroad.
