The UN SDGs: Do They Really Have a Place within Education Abroad Programming?

Episode Summary

In 2015, the United Nations adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as a universal call to end poverty, protect the planet and improve lives, today and in the future. The SDGs provide a comprehensive framework for sustainable development that addresses economic, social, and environmental challenges at large and are based on a vision that no one should be left behind. They aim to be achieved by 2030 which can only happen if all sectors, governments, businesses, NGOs, educational institutions, and the public, come together, get involved, and build partnerships to create a better future for everyone.

As more education abroad professionals incorporate the SDGs into their programs, we need to ask whether participating students are aware of them and their importance and whether or not they have a place in education abroad programming.

Join Ravi Raj, Chief Executive Officer of Authentica, Roberta Espinoza, Vice Provost for Global-Local Affairs at Loyola Marymount University, and Brooke Roberts, host of Gateway Spotlight, for a critical discussion on whether and how the UN SDGs should fit into education abroad programming.
