In recent years, the landscape of higher education has undergone significant changes driven by globalization, technology, and evolving societal needs. Higher education leaders are challenged to navigate the many opportunities and challenges presented by these shifts. International education professionals have a central role in fostering international learning and intercultural competence.
Facilitating international partnerships, curriculum internationalization, education abroad programs and international student recruitment and enrollment management have been integral parts of our mandate for years. Technological advancements, such as virtual classrooms and AI are revolutionizing the delivery and accessibility of international programs.
As stewards of international learning and engagement, international education professionals must embrace change and actively seek out new ways to enhance our collective endeavors.
As institutions navigate the evolving complexities of higher education and align strategic priorities to meet future goals, conducting external reviews brings fresh perspectives and new insights. Engaging external experts enables institutions to receive critical feedback and benchmark against accepted standards and best practices, enhance global learning and engagement initiatives, and recalibrate strategic plans.
Moreover, an external review serves as a proactive measure to address emerging challenges, assess resources, align goals with evolving trends, and reassure stakeholders of the institution’s commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement. In an ever-evolving landscape where global collaboration and innovation are paramount, investing in external reviews is essential for institutions committed to excellence and leadership in international higher education.
GlobalScope 360° is a multi-faceted, external review process informed by best practices for self-assessment and program review and grounded in leading practices in international higher education. Gateway works closely with each client to tailor an external review process that aligns with their unique needs, timeline, and budget. The GlobalScope 360° review process typically follows these 6 steps:
Gateway will engage in thorough discussions, on-site and/or virtually, to understand the specific requirements for the GlobalScope 360° review and craft a customized review process.
The GlobalScope 360° review team will assist the client with conducting a self-study reflection process, focusing on key areas identified during the needs assessment. Concurrently, the review team will initiate an exploratory phase, which may involve accessing key documents and meeting with stakeholders.
The review team, or a select group thereof, will conduct a brief campus visit, usually lasting 2-3 days, to engage with key stakeholders and assess the efficiency and strategic alignment of current operations and protocols.
Building upon the self-study and campus visit, the review team will conduct benchmarking against peer and aspirational peer institutions to identify effective strategies and solutions for how comparable institutions have addressed similar challenges.
The review team will provide a comprehensive and professionally designed report with specific recommendations and actionable guidance, structured by implementation priority (i.e., short-term, mid-term, and long-term).
The GlobalScope 360° review team and institutional representatives will hold periodic meetings over the subsequent six months to ensure effective implementation of recommendations, track progress and provide additional guidance as needed.
GlobalScope 360° presents a flexible and customized process designed to accommodate the unique needs of our client institutions and organizations. Clients have the option of choosing between a comprehensive internationalization review, a targeted review focusing on one or more specific aspects of international higher education, or a combination thereof. Each review is conducted by a panel of at least three external reviewers possessing specific expertise relevant to the focus of the review. Each review will also have a project manager tasked with ensuring a seamless and successful process.
GlobalScope 360° draws upon the widely accepted notion of comprehensive internationalization that focuses on the process of aligning and integrating policies, programs, and initiatives to position institutions as more globally oriented and internationally connected.
