May Arthur earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Northeastern University and then later earned a Master’s in Business Administration degree (MBA) from Simmons College, after coming to the US as an international student to pursue her post-secondary education.
Ms. Arthur, an accomplished entrepreneur, senior executive, consultant, board member and a leader with more than 25 years of success across higher education and international relations, leverages her extensive experience and understanding of client challenges to identify new markets, developing go-to-market strategies, and establishing international partnerships. She is a valuable advisor for an organization entering or expanding into new markets or launching a new product. Her broad areas of expertise include global strategy, organizational leadership, business development, and global operations.
Throughout her executive career, Ms. Arthur has held leadership positions with IEG World, EC Higher Education, EC English Language Centers, and The Olin Center for International Study. The early stages of her career allowed her to develop the confidence and skills necessary to establish an educational services center to bridge the gap, for international students, between learning English as a Second Language and mastering the academic skills necessary to succeed in US higher education. She began developing partnerships with universities in the late 1990s, helping them envision and launch new programs to attract academically qualified international students. Through these partnerships with local universities, she was able to attract and secure admissions for hundreds of international students into degree and short-term certificate programs to over 50 universities.
More recently, Ms. Arthur held several executive leadership positions with a global organization, where she identified new business opportunities, led business development and organizational growth across the US while managing operational teams. She demonstrated great leadership skills, developed strategic plans to expand business opportunities, and established many new partnerships and programs with universities, including international Pathway programs. Here recent work led her to establishing International Education Group (IEG World) to support the efforts of universities in recruiting, retaining and successfully graduating international students, which subsequently led her to joining Gateway International Group as a Partner.
Ms. Arthur has been an active member of several industry organizations since the mid-1990s including NAFSA: Association of International Educators and English USA, in addition to her involvement with at American International Recruitment Council (AIRC) and Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) over the past 10 years. Her commitment to advancing international education in the US can be seen through her frequent presentations at AIRC and NAFSA National and Regional conferences, and through her past and current service on the NAFSA Region XI team and English USA Board. She currently serves as a Board member of IPPC a Pathway program with SUNY Morrisville with articulation agreements to other SUNY campuses including SUNY Stony Brook and SUNY Albany.
Ms. Arthur has traveled to over 25 countries and has recruited students from over 15 countries. Her understanding of international market needs and their match to degree program offerings at universities in the US is a result of the significant amount of time she spent traveling to key markets to recruit international students, while designing programs to support them.
