2023 Student Global Leadership Conference | March 31 – April 1, 2023
Despite recent progress, the advancement of women into leadership roles is still far slower than men, making ‘it nearly impossible for companies to lay a foundation for sustained progress at more senior levels’ (United Nations). This progress is further delayed for non-binary people and women of colour. Tackling the significant and far-reaching implications of this imbalance in opportunity, compensation and leadership requires awareness AND action by people of all identities and backgrounds if we are to create meaningful change in the workplace.
Forced Internationalization and Opportunities for Campuses | January 24, 2023
According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), there are nearly 100 million displaced people around the world. Approximately 40% of this population are under 18 years old (UNHCR, 2022). Although access to quality schooling is a human right, a marginal 5% of refugee youth attend a university or college (UNHCR, 2021). Access to educational opportunities will be critical for improving the quality of life for many members of displaced populations and the society at large. The international community has set a target of increasing global refugee higher education enrollment to 15% by 2030 (known as the “15by30” goal). The Global Compact on Refugees that was adopted in 2019 encourages academic institutions to take an active role in achieving this target. This workshop is designed for higher education leaders to examine how they can facilitate refugee access to higher education and foster campus internationalization.

THE Awards Asia | June 21, 2023
Widely known as the ‘Oscars of higher education’, the THE Awards were a fixture in the UK higher education calendar for 14 years, before we took this prestigious event overseas for the first time in 2019.
These awards offer a major international platform to recognise outstanding leadership and institutional performance, and celebrate the continent’s higher education excellence.
The response from entrants over the past four years has far exceeded our expectations, both in terms of the number, and their wide geographical spread. It is a great privilege for us and our panel of external judges to read about your proudest achievements.
For this fifth running of these awards, the glittering final ceremony will once again feature at the THE Asia Universities Summit, taking place at The Chinese University of Hong Kong on 21–23 June 2023. As a key part of this summit, which attracts senior delegates from across the region and beyond, we will bring even greater attention to the brilliant work of our finalists, and so to the diversity and dynamism of Asian and Middle Eastern higher education as a whole.
We very much look forward to receiving your entries once again.

20th IMISCOE Annual Conference | July 3 – 6, 2023
Inequalities invariably intertwine with migration. On the micro-scale, socio-economic inequalities shape the propensity to migrate. On a macro-scale, South-North and East-West dynamics act as migration drivers. Recent mobility-related debates include inequalities as developmental outcomes of migration, as an implication of social and economic remittances, and as an issue to be addressed by public policies. Inequality-related challenges are also discussed in the context of gender, ethnic and racial disparities, urban segregation, or labour market segmentation in receiving countries. Inequalities intertwine with migration knowledge production. Postcolonial power relations determine who gets to define the research agenda, who receives research funding and, consequently, who gets to theorise migration knowledge.
There is a growing need for scientific and political discussion on new inequalities and challenges for the future, such as the demographic, climate and technological changes, the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, and the mass forced migration following conflicts such as the current war in Ukraine. As an efficient public response is still lacking, research and academic debates are much needed to support political decision-making processes. The focus on inequalities of the 2023 IMISCOE Annual Conference can facilitate the strengthening of topics in IMISCOE debates, from different methodological approaches (quantitative and qualitative) and various disciplinary focuses (including but not limited to economics, sociology, demography, political science, anthropology, law, history and geography).
For the 20th IMISCOE Annual Conference in Warsaw, we invite submissions of Individual Paper Proposals, Workshop Proposals and Panel Proposals that relate to the broad topic of migration and inequalities.
